RANCHO PARK GOLF CLUB - HANDICAP POLICY

POSTING OF SCORES

Rounds within the club will be posted by the handicap committee. Rounds outside the club must be posted by the player immediately after the round. Failure to post immediately after your round will result in a Penalty Round (P) on your scoring file. No exceptions.

CLUB INDEX

For regular tournaments, Rancho Park Golf Club members play to their Current Index or Club Index (whichever is lower).  For Major Tournaments, players play to their Low Index or Club Index (whichever is lower). The Club Index is derived by using the average of a player's lowest three differentials from his last six RPGC tournament scores. For example, if a player's last six RPGC differentials were:

7.5, 7.511.710.29.211.1

We would keep 7.5, 7.5, and 9.2 and throw out the 11.7, 10.2. and 11.1.

We then add these three differentials together and divide them by three. When the math is done, it reveals that this player's Club Index is 8.0.

Here's the formula for any nerds out there:

(7.5+7.5+9.2)/3 = 8.0

If a player doesn't have six posted rounds from which to derive a Club Index, we then use the following method:

No GHIN index. Play to a zero.
GHIN index but no RPGC scores Play to 1/2 your handicap.
1-3 rounds with RPGC The lowest differential will determine your Club Index.
4-5 rounds with RPGC The lowest two differentials will determine your Club Index
6 Rounds with RPGC  The lowest three differentials will determine your Club Index.
No RPGC scores in the last year Play to 1/2 your handicap.

If you've been a member of another club, you may have noticed that the same three guys seem to win every tournament - but their indexes never go down.  This is why we use a Club Index. If a player is shooting in the mid-90s outside of RPGC tournaments, but in the low 80s within club events, we ignore those outside scores.  Scores within the club are what matter most to us.

Calculating the Club Index involves a lot of math, so now and then we may have an accounting error. If you think there's been a mistake, by all means, please email us with your questions. Before doing so CLICK HERE first to find out which rounds are counting towards your Club Index. Finally, please remember that it's the math reducing your index automatically - not a human being.

Finally, from the USGA Handicap manual, there's this: If the Handicap Committee believes that the player's potential ability is different than the Handicap Index calculated from scores, it is authorized to adjust the player's Handicap Index.

WHEN IS A HANDICAP ADJUSTMENT DONE?
Rancho Park Golf Club's Handicap Committee can adjust a player at any time for any tournament. A player can also be adjusted during Major Tournaments, regardless of the policy that states a player's Low Index will be frozen. "Frozen" means that a player's Low Index may not go up during the course of a Major Tournament, but it can be adjusted downward if the Handicap Committee deems it appropriate. When it comes to handicap issues, the Handicap Committee has the final authority to adjust at any time.
